Summer seems so far away, your tan starts to fade and you realize you need to take care of it on multiple fronts. The sun makes your skin thicker, and as your tan fades, you get more breakouts and/or you decide to be more careful with your tan (you know what I mean!), and as your tan fades, you notice your skin is a bit dry.
A Danish study published in the British Journal of Dermatology* shows that the seasons (especially the cold) have an effect on the breakdown of certain proteins that make up the skin’s protective barrier.
This barrier is affected by climate and seasonal changes, and skin cells shrink, especially on the cheeks and hands. This, in turn, can lead to rosacea and eczema in susceptible people.
In addition, the fall season produces less sebum, which leads to nutrient deficiencies and a slowdown in skin metabolism and blood circulation. Our skin adapts to the season and prepares for winter.
What skincare routine should you adopt?
First, make sure you have a comprehensive care routine, because beautiful skin requires more than just skincare! No matter what time of year it is, especially in fall and winter, the following rules apply: Be gentle!
Remove your makeup and cleanse your skin thoroughly at night. If you already practice double cleansing, don’t stop! But remember: cleansing doesn’t mean rubbing, scrubbing and exfoliating every day.
If you live in the city and get around by motorbike or bicycle, double cleansing can be a good option. To do this, start with an oil-based cleansing lotion or organic cleansing oil like Le Baume Céleste or La Crème Douce Démaquillante.
Then remove the makeup residue with a lighter formula like Le Nettoyant Pureté Cleansing Gel or L’Eau Soir et Matin Cleansing Water.
Toner or serum is a great way to prepare your skin for hydration and, if you’re young, even use it instead of night cream.
Hydrate and protect your skin every morning with a cream that’s rich in antioxidants and nourishes the skin with lipids. Our Le Sérum Anti-Soif and La Crème de Santé combo is perfect if your climate isn’t too harsh.
Otherwise, if your skin is undernourished or problematic, opt for a more protective cream or even La Crème Riche. Spend at least some time each week gently exfoliating your skin and applying a mask that’s right for your skin.
Choose Le Masque Velours Repulpant or Le Masque Pureté Détoxifiant masks to plump or cleanse your skin. You can even use both at the same time to address different skin concerns in one step!
Be careful when choosing facial exfoliants, as they are often very aggressive – and we don’t always choose particularly gentle ones… La Crème Gommante by Absolution is made with such fine particles that you can hardly feel the exfoliation.
These particles, combined with fruit AHAs, remove dead cells that accumulate on the skin in the sun. Don’t forget about facial oils, which are great to use and very effective regardless of your skin type.
Yes, even oily or impure skin can benefit from oil – as long as it’s the right one! Our Addiction Oil is made with 26 plant extracts and plant oils and can be used to address many skin concerns or just keep your skin beautiful and healthy!
But even a high-quality organic facial oil made from a single plant variety may be right for your skin.
Remember that hot air puts a lot of pressure on your skin. When you turn on the heating, it is important to maintain humidity. To do this, just place a bowl of water on the heater.
I would like to briefly talk about the integrated approach and holistic thinking. You are more than just your face.
Your body and hair deserve your attention, too – especially if they are hidden under multiple layers of clothes and woolen hats most of the time! Once again: be gentle.
Exfoliate gently and not too often. Once a week or even less is enough. When you get out of the shower, remember to apply a moisturizing and nourishing body lotion or oil.
Le Gommage Corps Éclat and Le Lait Peau Douce make up the perfect body care combination.
From time to time, give your hair an intensive essential oil treatment. To do this, add a small tablespoon of coconut oil and two drops of chamomile essential oil, or mix equal amounts of castor oil with jojoba or avocado oil.
Apply the mixture to your hair, leave it on for a few hours, and then wash it with a mild, organic shampoo. You will see the results in no time!
