Quiet Quitting Is Coming For Your Skincare Routine

9 January 2025

Quiet Quitting is Coming to Your Skincare Routine

You may have seen the term floating around social media in the first half of 2022, but we’ve just realized that this trend, born on TikTok, is officially coming to your skincare routine. If you’re looking to reboot and really get back to basics in the new year, this is the perfect time.

The term itself can be narrowed down to an internet phenomenon, and the concept of “quiet quitting” isn’t bad either. From a professional perspective (where it all began), it means upholding the responsibilities of your title, no more, no less, and working to create the best work-life balance possible. Apply that to your skincare routine, and you’ll see a very gentle evolution of the 2021 skinism trend.

Going back to the basics is a great way to help your skin strengthen and regenerate. Especially during the hot season, when lots of sunscreen and Mary Poppins-style cheese boards are needed. By returning to a very simple yet effective three-step routine, you can figure out what works for your skin and what it really needs before introducing stronger ingredients (if you choose). Think fruit acids, hyaluronic acid, retinol.

Super-hydrating serums and brightening oils can be great, but if overused or incorporated incorrectly into your routine, they can actually damage your moisture barrier. Then there’s the risk of inflammation, irritation, and skin allergies. Focus on ’90s-dominant base products, OG products, and “simple” products that will help you get a beautifully retouched face again.

So what steps do you really need?

Cleanse: Remove dirt and debris and cleanse your skin properly.

Moisturize: Look for a hydrating serum or moisturizer to deeply hydrate your skin. (Or do both if it’s nighttime. Then skip step three when you sleep with the sun.)

Protect: Wear sunscreen. Every day. Protect your skin from harmful UVA and UVB rays.

Living a low-key life can do you a lot of good. Stop while you still have an advantage!!
