Skincare demystified: What is retinol and why should you add it to you skincare routine?

Retinol Demystified

Retinol is another name for vitamin A. It is a type of retinoid, a family of compounds related to vitamin A. Other retinoids include retinoic acid, retinal, and retinyl palmitate.

Retinol is not only a proven acne treatment, but it is also known for its anti-aging properties. Retinol boosts cell turnover, cleans pores, and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Retinols are now available as over-the-counter serums, creams, and regenerating night creams. People can easily incorporate them into their skin care routine because they contain very low concentrations of retinol,

gently improving skin quality over time.

There is a lot of misinformation about retinols in general, mainly because the exact types are unclear. All retinols are retinoids, but the reverse is not true. Retinoids have a higher cell turnover rate and can therefore be used to treat unresponsive acne or severe acne conditions. Retinols, on the other hand, induce controlled cell turnover, subtly rejuvenating the skin.

How to buy retinol products. There is no such application specificity for Indian skin or gender specifications. The only thing you need to know before using a retinol product is whether your skin is allergic, overly dry or

overly irritated.

What to look out for when buying retinol products. Start with a small amount. Too much too soon can lead to dry skin and over-exfoliation. Always use sunscreen when using these products.

Buy products recommended by a dermatologist, as not all retinols are effective. In this regard, decisions about retinoids are best left to a doctor, as using the wrong strength, large amounts or not using them when needed can further damage the skin.

Before buying a retinol product, you should get checked out by a qualified dermatologist. Not only does it help to know if these products can improve skin texture, but you can also rule them out if you don’t need them.

There are so many tempting creams and serums on the market, and not knowing your skin type and the product you choose will only make your complexion worse. Therefore, a professional checkup is the first step in deciding on a retinol treatment.

Retinol is best taken at bedtime, as this is when most of the skin healing and repair effects occur. This is also the time of day when a person is protected from other harmful environmental influences such as sun damage, dust, pollution, heat/cold waves, and so on.
