How to Clean Makeup Brushes
If you’re like us, cleaning your makeup brushes can be a daunting task, especially if you’re still searching for the right cleaning product for you and your brushes!
We use a lot of products, and while Fairy Liquid is nice, it dries out our hands, and I personally don’t like wearing rubber gloves. There are also sprays and solutions that always help with a quick clean, but don’t give you a squeaky clean brush head.
You may also find that even if the bristles are fine for brush cleaning, they become dry and brittle when exposed to strong cleaning solutions!
I stumbled upon this discovery on a cold Wednesday evening a few months ago. I had just finished cleaning my makeup and noticed that my makeup brushes were ugly and filthy. I gathered them all up and headed to the bathroom. Procoal’s Solid Shampoo caught my eye.
I thought, well, this makes my own hair look and feel pretty. I wonder how this will work with my brushes. The rest, they say, is history, and I’m already pissed that I didn’t put the two together sooner!
The scents in the soap are also perfect for your brushes: seaweed, charcoal, lavender and rose – a special treat you can smell while you’re putting on your makeup in the morning!
How to clean your makeup brushes with our shampoo soap. We think this technique is a quick and easy way to clean your brushes. Here’s a step-by-step guide.
Wet your brush. First, wet your brush with warm water. Make sure the brush is always facing down so that no water gets into the brush, the glue dissolves and the bristles stay in place!
Lather up. Next, use shampoo. The shape and size of the soap is perfect for your hands. Hold it in one hand and use your other hand to swirl the brush on the surface to create a lather. You’ll notice a lot of foundation and other makeup coming off your brush!
It’s amazing how much product you can wash off your brush using shampoo lather. Use the palm of your hand to really get the product off the brush head.
Rinse and repeat. Rinse the brush with water and massage the bristles to remove product residue. Repeat the previous step as well until the water runs clear and no makeup remains!
Dry your brushes. Don’t forget to give your brushes a good shake, as this will help them regain their shape quickly. Let them dry overnight, with the brush heads hanging on the edge so they don’t lie flat on one side.
Result! In the morning, you’ll find your brushes clean, soft, and smelling great. Since shea butter conditions and keeps the bristles soft, especially on eye makeup brushes, no one wants to get pricked by sharp bristles while blending eyeshadow!
Essential oils are great for scenting your brushes without being too strong or harsh. The shampoo itself also removes bacteria and general contaminants that have built up in your brushes!
Final bonus: shampoo soap is natural and gentle on the bristles, its consistency won’t change in any way, and you’ll find your brushes last longer than before!
It’s best to wash your makeup brushes every two weeks, as product buildup can cause the bristles to fall off the brush and transfer bacteria to your face and back, creating a cycle of bacteria.
If you have problem skin, you may find that washing your makeup brushes regularly doesn’t cause more breakouts, especially on areas like your cheeks where you apply bronzer and blush!
With a shampoo bar, you can effectively clean your makeup brushes. Not only will your brushes get super clean, but it will also help extend their lifespan! All this multitasking is a big win for us, so try it out for yourself and see how awesome we are!
